I too am a fan of churches. I tried to enjoy one of those immersive experiences and something was missing.

Kay Walten's avatar

What do you think was missing?

Lee Drozak's avatar

The dimension of the space and the little things only the eye can see. The layering so to speak.

Kay Walten's avatar

Ah good point I gotcha.

Kay Walten's avatar

Lee your point on the little things has me thinking. And you are exactly right.

This piece stays with me because it refuses the easy answer.

I especially liked the line between spectacle and listening. A disco may only want the walls, but Luminescence seems to want the building itself — its wounds, its height, its old silence.

“Faith can’t be bought, but the roof still needs fixing” is not exactly a theological slogan, but it may be one of the more honest ones.

A full church on a Thursday night is not a revival, perhaps. But it is not nothing either.

They do a great job. And it is really putting a modern purpose to a building that is getting used maybe once or twice a week.

I love churches, too, Kay. Notre-Dame de Nice looks amazing! especially w/ the light show. Fab. I saw Starry Night / Van Gogh in Paris, 2019. Incredible. The Klimt one looks spectacular too. How cool you've seen so many. Rock on!

Kay Walten's avatar

Oh Van Gogh in Paris? I can only imagine how amazing it was.

Jeanine Kitchel's avatar

It was in an outer arrondisement— a warehouse, big. And they ‘threw in’ Hokusai, too, which was also amazing! Seeing The Wave immersively was cool. But I love your cathedral light show immersions, Kay.

This looks so epic - thanks for sharing this with us, and allowing us to dream of traveling there as well.

Kay Walten's avatar

Thank you so much. There may be churches in the US too. There was a show in Philadelphia at one point.

Gerhard Molin's avatar

Oh I am back in Finland now :) But I remember having been at something similar in Vienna as well.

Kay Walten's avatar

On your next international trip you’ll have to see if there’s a light show. 😉

Your writing captures me every time. I was there with you. You saw SO much more than I did. Keep telling us your stories. We need inspiration

Oh you make me blush. Remember the show in Manhattan?

#1 "IRONICALLY", Trinitarians on one side & (JW & Islam-Muslims) on the other, are two opposite extrems of the SAME EXACT HERESY!!

You cant claim to believe that "I am HE" if you believe Jesus is a different person then God Father because to you Jesus is not HE but "some other different person sent by Him"!?!

There is a big difference between modalisim - one person who is God manifested in three different ways verse three different persons with diffiferent minds, amounts of Knowledge, power & authority over each other.

“WHO” it was (what person) that came “IN THE FLESH”, IS THE DETERMINING FACTOR IN WHAT IT MEANS TO BE “ANT-CHRIST”! Even Islam claims Jesus was the Jewish messiah/Christ who was to come in the flesh) they all deny “WHO” it was (what person) that came (to be the Christ) in the flesh!?!…….

#2 THE GOSPEL SONG OF MOSES v SONG OF LAMB .....THE WEDDING FEAST AD70.....JESUS ISNT COMMING BACK!?

Ironically the only period of time In which "a pope" would have been valid would have been the period after Christ ascension  before his return in the war AD 70...... After that Christ had returned in full and the saints resurected from that time forward Tull today was & is ruled by the saints in the new jerusalem which is a spiritual city with a spiritual temple.

There are no physical institutions that represent Christ on earth today except in the abstract concept of the Church which is not defined by a physical HQ or Holy see. The seat of Peter & Christ is located in the New Jerusalem and the church in that sense has ultimate authority but that authority does NOT extend to any physical institution AFTER "THAT WHICH IS PERFECT HAD COME. ....

👉 2 Tim 4: 4... shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be TURNED UNTO FABLES.... 8 , shall give me AT THAT DAY: and not to me only, but UNTO ALL THEM also that 👉LOVE HIS APPEARING👈

💣IMPOSSIBLE to love an appearing U deny!?! (context= AD70 2nd comming of "that day")

👉 2 Tim 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but DENYING THE POWER thereof: from such turn away.

Matthew 10:33 But whosoever shall DENY ME before men, him will I also DENY...

Free will & absolute determinisim are NOT mutually exclusive, counterintuitive, yes but only because humans thinking is backwards from base reality.

a) That which is finite must have some infinity in which to define its limitations witjin…..

b) the finite can never superceed the infinity in which it exist

c) an infinity must be known to itself with all points in space & time within it & such that it is deterministic in its construct no randomness exist

d) The finite is by definition set (s) limitation. Randomness only exist due to lack of knowledge understanding. Free agency is a exercise in limited knowledge, time, space & limited foreknowledge of outcomes or how-why thoes outcomes arrived.

Scripture teaches both because BOTH ARE LOGICAL IMPARITIVES AS WELL AS THE ENTIRE CONSTRUCT OF SOTERIOLOGY ITSELF.

"Ironically" both the calvinist & "free will" people R grossly wrong!!.... absolute determinisim & free will R NOT mutually exclusive logically & bible teaches both equally.

The question I asked was about the building. You answered a different one.
