Ayahuasca on a rancho in Yucatán. A woman in front of me died and came back. Then I looked in the mirror. I have the photos, and no memory of taking them.
Thanks Bill. Hey do you remember Mark Harris? I have been thinking of all the characters that have crossed my path. And yes, you are one of those characters. 🙏
.. well ‘that certainly took me along for the ‘wild ride ! Have ‘seen a few here & there eh .. but this stuff or ‘level pushes the envelope - haha - done some wild shit oh yes i have - but that’s legendary air ‘you get yerself into’ - me ? am all about ‘live to fight another day.. That you can carry it all off is ‘blowaway .. I follow exemplars & many ‘live at the edge.. easy to see the respect I have for Amanda Cotton - shooter / stunt actor / naturalist / filmmaker
.. such a great delivery & ‘voice ! What a Story ! You own it !
Thanks Thomas. Yes one of the wild rides I’ve take . This piece was hard to write. I did not want to sound like a reporter, but my explorer instinct kicked in to take note of my surroundings and signs. I was out of touch with my feelings at the time. Was it the brew that allowed me to look at the scene with detachment, I do not know.
it’s my guess - you arrived on the scene - already ‘empowered via ‘the circumstances & ‘decision ..
after all, you do appear to be.. uh mebbe hmm a ‘high amplitude ‘doer .. ! Does that ‘define you a bit ?
I love reading & seeing this approach .. ! I also think i keep underestimating you .. ! I plan to revisit some Jon Krakauer - refresh myself re ‘his voice - or ‘internal dialogue, ‘his witnessing .. You may be very similar k’now 🦎🏴☠️🐊
I am not sure I felt empowered as much as have the courage to explore the unknown. And yes, guilty as charged being a "high amp doer". I have not read Krakauer in a years. I actually have a story about Everest and why I didn't go, the same year as the tragic accident that led to Into Thin Air.
.. you’re ’voices are a match & his work is so ‘compelling - are few I have missed - several read more than twice - Everest holds great interest to me - as does Jacques Cousteau !
Seeing a skeleton in that mirror would have sent me running for the car. What I can’t get past is the photos: proof you were there, and no memory of taking them.
What did you do the next morning with the photos still on your phone?
I never had gone back to the photos afterwards. I don’t even remember having my phone during the ceremony. I only noticed at one point while looking for other pics.
Well I could say I was looking for enlightenment or healing of those wounds a band-aid can’t fix. A better understanding. Interesting question. When I wrote this I never stopped to ponder my expectations beyond a trippy experience. Thank you for asking it helps me come the day I edit or expand the article.
Good read

What were you hoping it would do for you when you went in?

I saw some unusual things in Mexico when I was there in the 90s but nothing like this!
Oh this definitely an unusual story.
